Maribor Puppet Theatre celebrates 50 years

The Maribor Puppet Theatre was founded as the second professional puppet theatre in Slovenia on 8 December 1973 by merging two amateur puppet theatres in the city - the KUD Jože Hermanko Maribor Puppet Theatre and the Small Puppet Theatre DPD Svoboda Pobrežje. In total, it has around 240 puppet shows in its archive.

Stories from under the table

The theatre will celebrate its 50th anniversary with a house festival from 28 November to 3 December, featuring performances that have particularly influenced them. The anniversary will also be marked by several exhibitions and the publication of a book, Stories from Under the Table, as a tribute to puppetry.

Stories from Under the Table is an illustrated children's book with a handbook on interesting facts about the world of puppets and puppet making by Maša Ogrizek and Darka Erdelji.

It is a tribute to puppetry in general, but it also has a useful value.

This Joyful Culture Day

Until 3 December, the annual Joyful Culture Day, 12 performances will take place in the theatre. The programme will include performances by the authors who have worked most in our country over the past decades.

From October, the exhibition Animals in Paintings and Puppets, organised in cooperation with the Maribor Art Gallery, will be on show in the exhibition hall in the basement of the Minorite Church, featuring animals captured in works of art and puppets. The title refers to their TV hit The Little Animals of Rezi.
