Every December, Santa’s mailboxes appear across Slovenia, collecting letters from children to Santa Claus. Children can write their letters during special letter-writing events or create them on their own and drop them in a nearby mailbox. These mailboxes are placed in various locations throughout Slovenia.
Santa has hundreds of helpers, and his elf translators assist him in understanding children’s letters. For every country, Santa has a dedicated elf translator—without them, he wouldn’t be able to understand the children’s wishes. In Slovenia, Elf Vito translates the letters and discusses them with Santa before the magic begins.
Every Letter Brings a Touch of Magic
Santa’s Mailbox is a national project that this year includes 29 municipalities across Slovenia. While it follows a unified concept, the organizers encourage municipalities to incorporate their local traditions and enhance the project with unique ideas.
The Santa’s Mailbox website offers a comprehensive overview of holiday events in participating municipalities. The goal of the project is to connect communities, showcase their uniqueness, and encourage families to explore and enjoy festive activities together.
Project Highlights
Each year, all collected letters are taken to Lapland by the organizers, where they are personally delivered to Santa Claus. Last year, Santa received three large velvet sacks filled with 6,500 letters from Slovenian children.
Every child who submits a letter receives an official certificate from the North Pole right before Christmas, confirming that Santa has read their letter and that presents are on their way.
