Tadej Pogačar Makes History: Fifth Tour de France Victory Marks a New Milestone for Slovenian Sport

For the rider from Klanc pri Komendi, this year's success followed his previous Tour victories in 2020, 2021, 2024 and 2025. Remarkably, in seven appearances at the Tour de France, he has finished on the overall podium seven times – an achievement rarely matched in modern cycling.

This year’s Tour belonged to the Slovenian star from start to finish. He established a decisive advantage as early as Stage 6 with a powerful attack on the legendary Tourmalet, gaining more than two minutes over his closest rivals. From that moment on, he confidently controlled the race and remained the undisputed leader all the way to Paris.

Pogačar finished with an overall advantage of 6 minutes and 26 seconds over Belgium’s Remco Evenepoel, while his UAE Team Emirates-XRG teammate Isaac del Toro of Mexico secured third place overall.

Although Belgian rider Remco Evenepoel won the individual time trial between Évian-les-Bains and Thonon-les-Bains during the final week, reducing the gap by 28 seconds, the Slovenian leader never lost control of the race.

Even after the time trial, Pogačar still enjoyed a lead of more than four minutes and remained firmly focused on the overall victory. At the time, he cautioned that the Tour was not over, while emphasizing that his team remained concentrated on the ultimate goal.

Over the three weeks of racing, he claimed five stage victories, including a memorable triumph on Alpe d’Huez, where he set a new ascent record on one of the most iconic climbs in Tour history.

Rather than simply celebrating his overall victory, Pogačar launched several attacks on the climb to Montmartre and fought for the stage win alongside Dutch rider Mathieu van der Poel.

Van der Poel proved slightly stronger in the closing meters, while Pogačar crossed the finish line with his arms raised as the overall winner of the Tour de France.

Speaking on the Champs-Élysées after the race, he did not hide his emotions: “I don’t know what to say. Every victory is special. I have ridden seven Tours and finished on the podium seven times. I have won five of them. Even for me, it feels incredible.” He also stressed that success is built on the support of those around him: “The most important thing is to enjoy what you do and to have people around you whom you trust, who help you and stand by you even during difficult moments.”
