Tadej Pogačar – Winner of the Tour de France

Slovenian cycling star Tadej Pogačar has claimed his fourth victory at the Tour de France, marking his 104th career win. With this remarkable achievement, he has further cemented his place among the greatest cyclists in history. By securing four titles in the world’s most prestigious stage race, he now stands alongside Britain's Chris Froome.

Pogačar admitted that this year’s Tour was the toughest of his career so far, and that he is now looking forward to a well-deserved rest. This was his sixth participation in the three-week-long race. He won in 2020, 2021, 2024, and 2025, and finished second in 2022 and 2023.

At just 26 years old, Pogačar continues to redefine the limits of what is possible in cycling. He has held the number one spot in the world rankings for 200 consecutive weeks. Before the Tour de France, he impressed with a dominant performance at the Critérium du Dauphiné, and then went on to confirm his supremacy at the Tour, once again proving himself the most versatile rider in the peloton.

In addition to Pogačar, three other Slovenians took part in this year’s Tour. Primož Roglič finished in eighth place, while Matej Mohorič and Luka Mezgec completed the race outside the top 100.

Grand Départ of the Tour de France in Slovenia in 2029?

This year’s Tour de France is special for Slovenia for another reason: the country has officially entered the race to host the Grand Départ of the Tour de France in 2029. Before the start of the final stage, Slovenian Prime Minister Robert Golob handed Tour Director Christian Prudhomme a formal letter of intent to organize the start of the Tour in Slovenia.

The project has the strong support of Slovenia’s top cyclists, including Tadej Pogačar, Primož Roglič, and Matej Mohorič. As Pogačar said during a press conference at the end of the Tour:

“I heard there’s a big chance the Tour de France could start in Slovenia in 2029. As a Slovenian, that’s hard to believe. Whether I’ll be racing or not, I’ll definitely be there. It’s incredible news for all of us.”

Hosting the Grand Départ in Slovenia would be not only a major sporting event, but a historic moment for the country. Slovenia offers everything: breathtaking landscapes, spectacular climbs, lively cities, rich cultural heritage, top-notch infrastructure, and years of experience in organizing world-class international events. We are proud of our sustainability efforts and our ability to connect sport with business, tourism, and society.
