At this year's Winter European Youth Olympic Festival, which will take place from February 9 to 16 in Bakuriani, Georgia, Slovenia will be represented by thirty young athletes. They will compete in six disciplines: alpine skiing, freestyle skiing, figure skating, short track speed skating, biathlon, and cross-country skiing.
The European Youth Olympic Festival is a multi-sport event designed for the best young athletes aged 14 to 18. Organized under the auspices of the European Olympic Committees, this year’s event will welcome hundreds of athletes from 48 countries.
Before their departure, the President of the Slovenian Olympic Committee – Association of Sports Federations, Franjo Bobinac, emphasized the importance of Olympic values. “Friendship, excellence, and respect are the essence of sports. Sports connect us, teach us cooperation, responsibility towards ourselves and others, and respect. At competitions like these, young athletes gain invaluable experience and build friendships. I wish them all to enjoy every moment—both on and off the field," he said.
The young ambassador for this year’s Winter and Summer European Youth Olympic Festival is judoka Zarja Tavčar, who won a bronze medal at the 2017 festival in Győr.
