Last weekend, Ptuj, the oldest town in Slovenia, was the venue of the three-day Roman Petovia for the 17th time in a row. More than 800 participants from seven countries presented life and customs from 2000 years ago, when the town was a major trade and craft centre.
Gladiators, legionaries, senators and other ancient characters filled the city, with one of the largest presentations of the Roman period in this part of Europe, bringing to life stories dating back more than two millennia and presenting the history of Slovenia's oldest city.

Throughout the day, the Roman camp of Petovia, not far from the city centre, once again hosted a presentation on life in ancient Rome. There was also a Roman camp with legionaries, gladiators and barbarians.
