Kamnik traditionally hosts the Days of National Costumes and Clothing Heritage at the beginning of September, this year for the 51st time. The event culminates in a procession of national costumes. 2000 participants from Slovenia and abroad take part in the procession through the medieval town centre.
The Days of National Costumes and Clothing Heritage is the largest ethnological festival in Slovenia, attracting around 30,000 visitors each year.
The Guardian ranked the festival among the top 20 traditional festivals in Europe.
Every year in September, tradition merges with ethnography, culture and entertainment in Kamnik.
The festival focuses on the heritage of clothing.
This often overlooked part of history is highlighted by the accompanying exhibitions as well as by the numerous performances of folklore groups from Slovenia and abroad. The motto of this year's festival is "No scratch, only the neighbour will be a scratch."

The festival was first organised in 1966, evolving from the Podgorska ohcet event organised in 1963. The procession attracted around 350 participants. The procession also included seven decorated peasant carts, carriages, spenders and parizars, which were ridden by members of folklore groups from cultural associations from Trzin, Količevo, Križ, Podgorje and Kamniška Bistrica. Folklore groups from Bela krajina and shepherds from Velika planina also came. More than 5000 spectators watched all this on the streets of Kamnik.
