The dish is nothing special, but it was prepared in history and even today in almost all Slovenian regions, when old bread should be consumed. The most famous representative of Slovenian gastronomy is Kozjanska bread potica. By traveling the recipe to other regions, the dish was getting different versions. A specialty are ingredients as supplements that are not specified and are the reason of leftovers or imagination.
Ingredients
600 g apples
350 g old bread
5 tbsp honey
1 vanilla sugar
3 tbsp ground walnuts
1 lemon juice and grind zest
250 ml sweet cream
2 eggs
cinnamon
Preparation:
Peel apples and cut them into thin slices.
Mix them with honey, cinnamon and lemon juice.
Cut bread into small cubes.
Whisk eggs in a bowl and mix with cream. Soak bread in this.
Coat baking pan with baking paper.
At first place a layer of lightly scared bread.
Then add a layer of apples and sprinkle with walnuts.
Continue with bread, again with apples until all ingredients are used.
Finally, pour with cream sauce as leftover and drizzle with honey.
Bake for 40 minutes at 180 degrees, or until golden brown.
