International Women's Day

As the world commemorates International Women's Day on March 8th, let’s have a look at Slovenian women's lives, brimming with diversity, resilience, and achievements according to the data by Statistical Office of Slovenia.

In Slovenia, nearly 1,054,000 women resided last year. Women represented 49.8% of Slovenia's population at the beginning of 2023. Their collective story paints a vivid portrait of strength and determination, with an average age of 45.4 years, almost 3 years more than the average age of men.

Slovenian women were named with over 30,000 different names, with the most common being Marija, followed by Ana, Maja, Irena, and Mojca. One striking revelation? On average, women live nearly 3years longer than men - the average age of female residents who passed away in 2022 was 82.5 years. The life expectancy for girls born in 2022 was 83.9 years, while for boys it was 78.4 years.

Yet, their journey encompasses far more than mere statistics. Slovenian women are pioneers of education, with nearly a third holding tertiary qualifications. From the hallowed halls of academia to the bustling corridors of commerce, they leave an indelible mark on every sphere they touch.

In matters of the heart, Slovenian women carve their paths with grace and determination. Whether embarking on the journey of motherhood or embracing the joys of singlehood, their choices reflect a mosaic of strength and autonomy.

And what of their professional endeavours? Slovenian women, comprising 45.3% of the workforce, defy convention with their unwavering presence in diverse industries. Yet, despite their undeniable contributions, a gender pay gap persists, underscoring the need for continued advocacy and reform.

But amidst the challenges, Slovenian women find solace in their unwavering resilience. Their boundless optimism shines through, with majority rating their quality of life at an impressive 7.7 out of 10. From the bustling streets of Ljubljana to the serene landscapes of the countryside, their spirit illuminates every corner of the nation.

As we celebrate International Women's Day, let us pay tribute to the indomitable spirit of Slovenian women. They are the architects of change, the custodians of tradition, and the embodiment of hope. In their stories, we find inspiration, in their triumphs, we find courage, and in their resilience, we find the promise of a brighter tomorrow.
