Bread braid was made as a richer, gently sweet variety of bread for special celebrations. The braid had to be made with four strains weaving. Next to Easter, braid was a traditional gift for a wedding, birth or similar occasion.
50 dag flour
3 tbsp oil
1 tbsp sugar
1 egg yolk
1 vanilla sugar
3 tbsp warm milk
3 tbsp lukewarm cream
2 dag yeast
In a bowl mix the flour and yeast, add warm milk and sugar.
Mix and leave to rise for 20 minutes.
Add oil, cream, rum, egg and salt, whisk and mix in the mass again.
Leave to rise for another 20 – 30 minutes.
Cut the dough into several pieces and roll them into long ropes.
Use 4 for ropes to make a braid, coat each braid with the egg yolk.
