Golden Fox competition in Kranjska Gora

Kranjska Gora hosts the traditional Golden Fox Alpine Skiing Cup, in which the world's best female skiers will compete in the giant slalom. The races will take place on 7 and 8 January 2023.

Slovenia's ski resorts have not been spared by the somewhat warm winters, but Kranjska Gora has enough snow to host the competition. "We are quite relieved, because there is enough snow in Kranjska Gora, given that there is hardly any elsewhere. We are confident that the course will be perfectly prepared for all the competitors," Gregor Lednik, Secretary General of the Golden Fox, told STA a few days ago after the FIS gave the green light for the competition.

The track has between 40 and 50 cm of snow. The track in Podkoren has its own microclimate and it is always a degree colder there than in Kranjska Gora, which is only a stone's throw away.

The races will be watched by many local and foreign visitors, and the Kranjska Gora tourism workers are very pleased with the number of visitors to Kranjska Gora, which is still bathed in festive lights.

An opportunity to promote Slovenia

Slovenians are considered a sporting nation. Sport inspires us and connects us globally, and at the same time it makes an important contribution to the promotion of the country, raising its visibility and reputation in the world. Major and popular sports competitions are an excellent opportunity to promote Slovenia, which will be presented to the international public as a country of top athletes and an excellent tourist destination with a highly innovative, technologically advanced economy, characterised by advanced technological solutions, high quality products, cutting-edge innovations, and ecologically and socially responsible behaviour.

The Golden Fox, the FIS Alpine Skiing Women's World Cup Kranjska Gora 2023, with a tradition of almost sixty years, is considered the largest event of its kind in South-Eastern Europe and boasts strong international media coverage, viewing rate and visibility. It is therefore extremely suitable for the national communication campaign "I feel Slovenia. Green. Creative. Smart." which SPIRIT Slovenia is implementing with the aim of raising the visibility and reputation of Slovenia and its green, creative and smart economy in the international environment.
