From 20 to 24 March, the world's best ski fliers will gather again in Planica. Once again, the valley below Ponce will host a ski festival.
In addition to the traditional men's World Cup season finale on the Goriška Brothers' Aerodrome, this year the women's season finale on the medium aerobatic platform will also take place in Planica. Another new feature is a new ice ski, which should reduce skiing problems due to spring temperatures.
The 90th anniversary of the first race in Planica
This year also marks the 90th anniversary of the first race in Planica, with the first race in the valley taking place on 4 February 1934. The race is given an extra touch of glamour by the farewell of the champion Peter Prevec on Sunday. He will crown a career spanning more than 15 years in front of his home fans in Planica.
Tickets are selling well and will also be available at the venue. Planica can accommodate between 30 and 35 thousand visitors per day. On Wednesday 20 March, the aerodrome test will start at 10:00, followed by the Children's Day on Thursday 21 March and the women's grand final, headlined by World Cup winner Nika Prevc, in the afternoon. Long-time Planica sponsor Triglav will again bring around 4000 children for free. Friday is the first men's competition with the first round at 3pm, Saturday is the day for the team competition, followed by the final of the season's top 30 jumpers on Sunday. The organisers also promise a rich accompanying programme.
The last chance to see the eldest of the Prevc brothers up close in action
The final at the Goriška Giant will be the last chance to see the eldest of the Prevc brothers, who has taken our country's name far and wide, up close and personal. The spectacle at the Goriška brothers' airfield will be marked by the fame of the Slovenian champion Peter Prevc.
The 31-year-old eagle from Dolenja vas near Železniki will bring to a close a glittering career as one of our most successful athletes and, by most standards, the best ski jumper.
Primož Peterka is "only" ahead of him in terms of the number of Grand Crystal Globes he has won twice (in 1996/97 and 1997/98), while the eldest of the Prevc brothers has lifted the championship trophy high in the air once. He did it in the unforgettable winter of 2015/16, in which he won everything there was to win under the guidance of head coach Goran Janus.
In that hard-to-repeat season, Peter flew to the Golden Eagle at the New Year's Tour, the World Flying Championship title at Kulm and his third consecutive overall victory in the special standings of the aerobatic events. He also broke several statistical records that still stand today, namely the most points (2303), wins (15) and podiums (22) in a single World Cup season.

Nika Prevc will lift the Grand Crystal Globe in Planica
And his younger sister Nika Prevc will lift the Grand Crystal Globe in Planica on Thursday for her overall World Cup victory this season. "I've done my best jumps on this hill and it's a great advantage for our whole team. But I want to have the last word on Thursday," she said ahead of the final.
Nineteen-year-old Nika Prevc won the seventh Slovenian Grand Crystal Globe in winter sports at the highest level and the fifth in ski jumping, ahead of the 2023/24 Ski Jumping World Cup final.
She did it after finishing 11th in the World Cup premiere at the Vikersund Aerodrome. The Prevc family now has two Globes in their showcases. The first one was won by Peter Prevc, who will say goodbye to competitions in Planica, and the second one was won by Nika Prevc at the beginning of her career at the highest member level.
