The 59th Maribor Maribor Theatre Festival will take place from 3 to 16 June. The core of the festival's programme consists of twelve very different, but always top-quality Slovenian productions, selected by the selector Blaž Lukan, which will compete for the festival awards.
Most of the performances focus on subjects that reflect the modern man with a diffuse focus and a fundamental powerlessness in social roles. And so the performances in this year's selection, whether subtly, directly or metaphorically, strike at social, familial and partner relationships, at oppressive systems, at seemingly impenetrable corporate and media realities, and at the very heart of various mechanisms of denial (racism, sexism, homophobia, xenophobia . ...), exposing one of the most prominent themes of the selection, and in part of the selection, the theme of violence," explained the selector in his justification.

The Maribor Theatre Festival has long been more than just theatre performances; round tables, international conferences, talks with theatre artists, exhibitions of theatre photography, book presentations and a student programme also enrich the festival's varied events.
