Tour of Slovenia – top cyclists and green panoramas

The Tour of Slovenia is the country’s largest and most prestigious cycling event, boasting a tradition of over 30 years. Evolving from a national competition into a world-class sporting and tourism spectacle, it now attracts some of the world’s best cycling teams and showcases Slovenia’s natural beauty to millions of viewers across the globe.

In 2025, the race will take place from June 4 to June 8, starting in Piran and concluding in Novo mesto. This year’s edition will mark the 31st running of the race.

A showcase of sport, scenery, and Slovenian hospitality

Organized by Cycling Club Adria Mobil, the Tour of Slovenia has matured into a highly professional event that blends elite-level cycling with the promotion of Slovenia as a sustainable and boutique destination. Along the way, spectators are treated to authentic Slovenian hospitality, making the race a favourite among teams and fans alike.

Commonly referred to as the Slovenian loop, the race is held at the perfect time - between the Giro d’Italia and the Tour de France - which makes it an attractive stage for top teams preparing for the cycling calendar’s biggest events.

The race route winds through diverse landscapes, connecting the Julian Alps, the Mediterranean coast, wine-growing hills, karst plateaus, and historic city centres. More than just a race, it serves as a platform for regional unity, local pride, and international visibility.

From humble beginnings to global stage

The first Tour of Slovenia was held in 1993 as a tribute to the newly independent country. That year’s winner, Boris Premužič, claimed the very first yellow jersey. The inaugural race featured eight stages—today's editions are shorter in days but rich in content and visual impact, covering all regions of Slovenia.

Over the years, the race has become a proving ground for world-class talent. Primož Roglič and Tadej Pogačar, both multiple winners, headline a list of stars who have made their mark here. Other well-known champions include Diego Ulissi, Mitja Mahorič, and Jure Golčer.

A global broadcast

Thanks to its partnership with the Slovenian Tourist Board, the race has been broadcast on Eurosport for eight consecutive years, reaching over 63.5 million viewers in 130 countries. The breathtaking aerial shots of Slovenia’s green valleys, cultural heritage sites, and cheering fans have captivated international audiences and positioned Slovenia as a dream destination for nature lovers and sports tourists alike.

The UCI (Union Cycliste Internationale) has recognized the race’s quality and prestige by including it in the UCI ProSeries, confirming its importance in the professional cycling calendar.

More than a race

Each edition of the Tour of Slovenia is more than a competition — it’s a celebration of Slovenian spirit, tradition, and sustainability. The race promotes active lifestyles, draws visitors and media attention, and brings communities together across the country.
